Juvederm
Juvederm, an assortment of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers by Allergan, offers a wide range of options for patients seeking aesthetic enhancements. The fillers are classified into two collections based on their manufacturing technologies. The Vycross range employs the patented Vycross™ Technology, resulting in a cross-linked viscoelastic gel that provides superior lifting capabilities. These fillers are also infused with lidocaine, a fast-acting anesthetic, to ensure enhanced patient comfort during the injection process. On the other hand, the Ultra implants are created using Hylacross Technology, a more traditional cross-linking method.
Each collection of fillers is supplied in prefilled syringes accompanied by sterile needles, traceability labels, and a comprehensive product pamphlet. Proper storage conditions require a clean, dry, and cool room with temperatures ranging from 2℃ to 25℃.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF JUVEDERM FILLERS
Juvederm is available in two primary collections: the Vycross collection and the Ultra collection. While both collections consist of cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel, the Vycross fillers employ advanced technology that ensures longer-lasting results. Both collections seamlessly integrate into the skin, providing natural-looking improvements. In addition to these collections, Juvederm Hydrate is also available as a biorevitalization solution.
HOW DOES JUVEDERM DERMAL FILLER WORK?
Healthy skin is characterized by proper hydration, plumpness, and smooth texture, attributed to the presence of essential skin cells like collagen and hyaluronic acid. These cells maintain optimal skin health, facilitating rapid healing of blemishes such as acne scars. However, factors like aging, external aggressors, and repetitive facial expressions can impact skin health negatively. Aging leads to a decline in cell production and impairs the skin's natural maintenance processes, resulting in dry, dull, and wrinkled skin. Extrinsic aggressors, such as chronic sun exposure, smoking, and pollution, introduce reactive free radicals that further deteriorate the skin. Additionally, certain medical conditions, like HIV, can cause unintended weight loss and abnormal fat distribution, resulting in a gaunt and unhealthy appearance.
Juvederm fillers are derived from a controlled bacterial fermentation process and undergo purification to ensure they are free from pyrogens and contaminants. Vycross Technology combines hyaluronic acid with both low and high molecular weights, resulting in a cohesive and easily injectable gel that delivers long-lasting results. Furthermore, the presence of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid minimizes water attraction from surrounding cells, reducing the likelihood of post-injection swelling. Fillers produced using Hylacross Technology possess a smooth consistency, allowing for precise administration and natural-looking outcomes. These fillers effectively address problematic areas, providing a plumper, smoother, and more youthful appearance.
ADMINISTERING A DERMAL FILLER INJECTION
Dermal filler injections are medical procedures that should only be performed by certified specialists. Adhering to strict aseptic standards is crucial to minimize the risk of cross-contamination and disease transmission. During the initial consultation, thoroughly review the patient's medical history and conduct a facial assessment to accurately plan the treatment goals and outcomes. Discuss potential effects, both desirable and undesirable, as well as the associated risks. Once the patient is deemed suitable and prepared, schedule the procedure. Begin by sanitizing the targeted areas thoroughly. Assemble the medical device following the instructions provided in the package insert. The injection depth may vary depending on the product and severity of skin depressions.
Specific Instructions for Different Juvederm Fillers:
- Volite with Lidocaine: Inject the filler into the dermis.
- Volbella with Lidocaine: Administer the filler via superficial or mid-dermis injections. For lip augmentation, inject it into the lip mucosa layer.
- Volift with Lidocaine: Perform deep dermis injections. For lip plumping, inject into the lip mucosa layer.
- Volume with Lidocaine: Inject into subcutaneous, upper-periosteum, or deep dermal layers to provide volume in sunken areas.
- Ultra Smile: Inject into the lip mucosa layer or dermis layer of the lip.
- Ultra 2: Perform mid-dermis injections.
- Ultra 3: Perform mid-to-deep dermis injections.
- Ultra 4: Perform deep dermis injections.
- Hydrate: Perform superficial dermis injections.
Take care not to overcorrect the areas, as it may result in swelling or tissue death. Gently massage the treated areas to ensure even distribution of the gel. Refer to the package insert for further directions and precautions.
